100% carbon-free operation thanks to the zero-zero strategy
ENERGY AND EMISSIONS
Zug Estates is aware of its responsibility relating to climate change. With its zero-zero strategy, Zug Estates has been pursuing two goals for over ten years: On the one hand, buildings should be managed emission-free, while as much energy as possible should be self-produced. Energy purchased from third parties must come from renewable sources. The Zug Estates sites – Suurstoffi and the city centre – have been operating virtually CO2-free since 2022 (Scopes 1 and 2).
The energy systems at the Suurstoffi site and the City Centre / Metalli site are key factors behind these low emission figures.
KEY ENERGY FIGURES FOR 2023
The key figures relate to the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023.
1.1
Greenhouse gas emissions in kilogram per square metre of energy reference area
93
Share of renewable energies in percent
63.9
Final energy consumption per square metre of energy reference area in kWh
1188
Power production of PV installations in kWp. This is equivalent to the power consumption of 260 single-family homes.
299
Direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions in tonnes (scopes 1 and 2)
49
Share of buildings with PV system in percent
410
Customers of the private consumption community (PCC)
91
Number of installed e-charging stations
Absenkpfad
We have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions from 17.3 to the current level of 1.1 kg per square metre of energy reference area (-93.6%) since 2010.
TWO SITES – TWO ENERGY SYSTEMS
The energy systems at the Suurstoffi site and the City Centre / Metalli site are key factors behind these low emission figures.
Brief explanation of the Suurstoffi energy system
The energy system installed at the Suurstoffi site in Rotkreuz produces no carbon dioxide emissions. The energy required for hot water, heating and cooling in the summer is provided by large geothermal installations under the property and every building is connected to those installations through an anergy grid.
Circulago lake water district heating and cooling system
The Zug city centre site is now almost fully connected to the Circulago lake-water district so that all heating, cooling and water heating for all properties will be virtually CO2-free.
